The three story addition
has a high living room space with a home study mezzanine above and a
playroom/guest room below. The lower level is open to grade; the
living space is dramatically sky lighted; both overlook the river to
the east. The skylights have space age thermal blankets operated automatically, with a light sensing motor control, to maximize solar
gain and minimize heat loss.
The south wall of the living space is a passive solar collector, a "trombe
wall",
In which the heavy masonry mass absorbs solar radiation which passes
through the exterior glazing due to the low solar angle in winter and
vents the heat to the exterior in the summer. The wall connects to the
greenhouse with hot tub at the lower level. The green house is
accessed through a circular opening in the brick wall. |
