This Union Village house
was featured in "House Beautiful" magazine as an example of how
passive solar design can be successfully integrated into traditional
style houses. The existing building was divided into two living units;
an owner's house and a rental apartment. The house is located in a
traditional Vermont hamlet along a picturesque river.
Program
The owner's growing family needed additional living, play, and guest
spaces as well as a proper entry to their house. They wanted to
utilize passive solar and other energy conservation techniques as much
as was practically possible.
Design Solution
The design of a southern addition to the house takes its basic
dimensions and form from the existing house. The roof and eave lines
align with the existing and the existing porch was extended to form a
new entry space between the existing and new structures. |
