The client, a college
professor, needed a house that would be comfortable for one person but
also for visiting family and friends. She desired a home with warm,
natural materials that would require little maintenance.
Design Solution
This compact house consists of two juxtaposed shed roof forms
separated by a covered entryway. One form is the garage with a studio
above and the other is a three floor, three bedroom house. The house
features a central brick chimney form which contains a fireplace, wood
stove area, niches and ledges. The brick mass separates a sunken
sitting area from the dining area and kitchen.
The exterior of the house is sheathed in cedar shingles while the
interior features slate floors and exposed douglas fir structure. |
