The east wall is designed
to permit natural light to penetrate deeply within the interior space.
Back to back fireplaces
divide the great room from a formal sitting room. One is large and
contemporary; the other is small and formal. The sitting room (no
photo) contains the antiques and is designed to allow sunlight to
enter the space indirectly. The natural illumination is soft, ample
enough to show off the colors of the woods and inlays of the antiques,
and diffused to protect the furnishings from fading.
The interior walls and ceilings are combinations of red oak and white
plaster and the floors are teak parquet.
The owner’s first statement after moving into the house was about the
positive effect of the natural light on their spirits and how it
allowed them to see the subtle beauty of their antiques for the first
time. |
