This house is located on
the edge of a traditional New England village Thetford Hill in
Vermont. The site slopes steeply down from the road with extraordinary
views to the east across the Connecticut River Valley to a beautiful
range of New Hampshire mountains.
Program
The clients lived in a traditional brick, dark house in Georgetown,
DC. For retirement, however, they wanted a contemporary house to match
their anticipated new life style. The house had to accommodate
specific antiques, pieces of art, and a large chinese tapestry,
Design Solution
The house is organized on three levels: the entry/living level between
guest quarters below and owner’s suite above. The core of the design
is a two story great room that opens to a long deck and the panoramic
