Design Solution
The site is organized with public access from the east and privacy to
the west.
Most spaces have southern
and western exposure while the northern exposure is limited. The
approach to the house is through a landscaped courtyard with a
roadside hedge for privacy and a formal planting of linden trees. The
garage door has an applied horizontal trellis to add to the "garden"
courtyard aesthetic. Visitors enter the house via a bluestone walk and
exterior gallery on the north; the studio is entered through an
interior gallery to the south.
The driveway, parking, and
garage is located level with the roadway. From this elevation the
house is vertically organized to step down with the natural grade to a
walk-out basement 3-1/2 floors below. |
